10th European Day of Jewish Culture in Oslo
(Read the English version below )
This year's subject matter: Jewish Celebrationas and Traditions
The Jewish home is a strong institution that carries on traditions and cultural heritage. In the midst of this culture, we find the importance of food traditions and the gathering around the table , celebrating festivals and religious holidays. These traditions keep Jewish life and Culture alive and this heritage has been brought forward from generation to generation.
In Norway, 2009 is officially a year of recognizing cultural heritage and Oslo Jewish Museum will combine that fact with the subject for the European Day of Jewish Culture by editing a great, new Jewish cook- book: Jewish food - on Norwegian plates.
Earlier, there has only been edited one, rather small book on Jewish food in Norway. This new book will be comprehensive, and a very beautiful presentation of Jewish food from many traditions in Norway through times, strongly connected to festivals and Holidays. The book will contribute with a new cultural /historical picture of the Norwegian Jewish life and traditions through 150 years.
