Madeleine Taradach was born in Paris in 1929. Her family, who was Jewish, was murdered in Auschwitz; she grew up in a Catholic family. As a teenager she converted to Christianity and began her studies in theology, which in the 1950s led her to Salamanca, where she met her husband, Antoni Plasencia. In the 90s she reestablished a close relationship with Judaism, a fact that, according to her own writing, "opened her heart".  She gathered a magnificent library of biblical, semitic, linguistic, historical and cultural themes. Her children fulfilled her wish to donate the collection to the Nahmanides Institute for Jewish Studies, where it has been catalogued and will be accessible for public consultation.
