History of the Jews in Switzerland reaches back at least a thousand years. Jews and Judaism have been present in the territory of what is now Switzerland since before the emergence of the medieval Old Swiss Confederacy in the 1400s.

Approximately 17,000 Jews are living in Switzerland at present, and there are 17 official communities. Jews in Switzerland lead a very active religious, cultural and social life, particularly in such urban centres as Zurich, Basel, Bern, Lausanne and Geneva.
